What are options if failed year 12?

I have wasted my time in Year 12, didn’t revise enough , got C in maths and biology and failed chemistry in my mocks. What should I do? I can’t progress to Year 13 school says. My fault and could have got As if I had worked. . Don’t know what I should do next. Mum angry and says I have to find a job.

You can repeat year 12. Go to a sixth form college. Drop chemistry chose another a level and keep maths and biology . It’s quite common.

Is it common? Just annoyed with myself having wasted a year. I had warnings and was told I was a disappointment as I was expected As . Just ignored the warnings. Have to convince my mum that if I repeat I will work hard this time. Thanks for the advice.

Well is repeating what you really want to do, or is it just 'what you do', when you fail? Have you seriously considered alternatives?

Getting a job is one option and study for exams at evening classes. Or look at local sixth form colleges and repeat the year. C at this stage is not a disaster. If you really work hard all over the summer on your exam prep. Plenty of help out there on line for free - Save my exams, PMT. Beg school to let you resit exams in Sept and see if you can improve your grades sufficiently. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, work the problem and turn it around. You have to really want to get the exams and really work hard. At A level no one can feed you the information, you have to own your own work and dig into what you don't know and get your head around it. Cut out a lot of socialising and stick to a strict timetable and look to do at least 5 hours study a day. Then practice exam paper questions over and over - diving back into the content if you find a hole in your understanding or knowledge. I think if people realise you are serious they will help you, but if they think you are just moaning they will not be interested. It's really up to you. Good luck and hope things work out.

Hi there,

I am really sorry to hear that you failed year 12, however, it is not the end of the world. you have the option to retake the year, and this will set you up better for year 13. Have you considered repeating?

Kind regards, Jenifer (Kingston rep)

Turns out in the end after your advice, discussed with teacher, I got B in biology can’t believe it, C in chemistry but D in Maths for mocks so can go to Year 13. Maths teacher said she was disappointed as I am a gifted mathematician ( according to her) and said I should get A * but have bad attitude. The thing is I hate maths with a vengeance, didn’t go to lessons. I am dropping maths, and doing BTEC Law Level 3. for my other A level equivalent. School says I can do it in a year but it’s a 2 year course. Anyone done that in a year? Pure relief never having to do maths again but do need to pass BTec level 3.. is it doable?
