City St George or LSBU

Hi guys im currently a year 12 student and I am planning on studying diagnostic radiography as i would like to become a sonographer. My two top university choices are St george and lsbu but i cannot tell which one i prefer more. I plan to apply to both but was wondering if anyone who goes to one of these universities could tell me what it is like for them.

It won't matter where you study DR as the courses are held to the same standards by the HCPC and the NHS won't care where you studied. Try to go to open days at both unis to get a feel for the facilities, staff and campus, and then look at placement locations and timings. You'll then be able to work out which is the best fit for you.

Hi!
I’ve been at LSBU for 3 years as an undergrad and 4 years in postgrad, and I’ve genuinely loved my time here. If you're thinking about Diagnostic Radiography, LSBU has a fantastic course. Diagnostic Radiographer was named Course of the Year in 2022 and is fully HCPC-approved and accredited by the Society and College of Radiographers. Around 95% of graduates are in work or further study within 15 months, earning an average of £30,000, which rises to around £37,000 after five years. Student satisfaction is also high, with 87% overall satisfaction and 100% saying staff support their learning well. LSBU has a Silver rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework and is one of the top modern unis in London for health courses.
The university is based in Southwark, central London, just a short walk from the South Bank, London Eye, and several major hospitals, so it’s a brilliant location both for studying and for clinical links. On top of all that, the support, sense of community, and teaching quality really make it a great place to study. I’d definitely recommend it. I’ve felt valued every step of the way, and I’m genuinely glad I chose LSBU.

Hi! That’s so exciting, great to hear you're already thinking ahead about Diagnostic Radiography and a career in sonography!
I'm currently studying Master of Public Health (School of Health and Medical Sciences) at City St George's, University of London, and I’ve had a really positive experience so far. The teaching team is incredibly supportive, and there’s a strong clinical focus from early on. One of the things I’ve really valued is the opportunity to go on placement at NHS hospitals across London, which gives you real exposure to what it’s like working in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
The Tooting campus (previously the home of St George’s, University of London prior to the 2024 merger with City, University of London) is also quite unique, it’s based inside a working hospital, so you’re immersed in the clinical environment from day one. Plus, you’re surrounded by students from other health-related courses, which really adds to the professional vibe.
It’s great that you’re applying to both unis, keeping your options open is smart. If you have any questions about life or study here at City St George's, feel free to ask! 😊 Good luck with your applications!
