Hi! @Marogak 🙂
Firstly, it's great you're planning ahead with timings! I understand it can be frustrating when you plan routes!
You mentioned a nursery, I just wanted to point out that UEA has a nursery too, it may be convenient to consider the one on campus, if an earlier train is available.
At university, it's okay to be late, you won't really be penalised (just make sure you log your attendance) however, you do want to be getting the most out of your lectures so being late isn't ideal.
Can you travel to Norwich by car? This may be easier as you will get to UEA faster? I'm aware UEA do a car-share for students who commute. You can have a look and see if someone else commutes to UEA from Diss?
I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions or want any more information on the above!!! 🙂

If you know you are going to be late for lectures, then you need to talk to your lecturer ahead of time to explain (a) that you'll be late, and (b) why you'll be late. I'm sure they will be understanding. (They will get annoyed though if you're repeatedly late and you haven't spoken to them about it in advance)

When you arrive, enter and sit down quietly. People arriving late will distract other people, so you need to keep that to a minimum.

Hi @Marogak

It may be worth contacting your academic supervisor to explain the situation and they will definitely help out and discuss with you some options. Some courses have more than one class at different times. They also may be able to help and maybe offer extra classes. I used to have a seminar and my friends would have the same seminar at a different time in the week, so sometimes they will let you change classes, if there is a clash. This may help the timetabling situation. As my colleague @UEA Rep Fatma said it may be worth looking into the nursery at UEA as then it may make it easier. It is okay to be late a few times to lectures, however sometimes at the start of lectures the most important announcements are made to the class (e.g. about assessments or what the class is going to cover) and sometimes they take the attendance then. You may also be able to change modules to ones that are later in the day or complete a language class. which counts towards credits. You could ask your supervisor or head of school on the options are available and I am sure they would be happy to help! 🙂

I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any further questions

Hi Marogak, sorry you're going through this. I know childcare can be so stressful and most places are always fully booked! I wanted to point out a couple of things.

Firstly, it might be worth looking to see if you are eligible for help with childcare.

Secondly, there will definitely be a course leader you can speak to. Can you give me the name of the course and what level it is (undergrad, masters...) and I will double check? I know you mentioned Adult Nursing so I'm assuming it's the BSc? It's also worth mentioning this couse has placements so that's something to think about as well.

Once we know this, I can check to see if your lectures and seminars etc... are live and recorded or just live. If they are just live, it is likely a QR code is used for attendence. UEA and each course should have a set attendence percentage each student needs to reach (for example, 75%) before concerns are raised. You should try and go to as many in-person classes as possible but I completely understand sometimes it's just not posssible, but you want to be either somehow scanning this QR code or making someone aware of your situation.

Therefore, as soon as you are allocated an academic advisor at UEA and teaching starts, I would make them aware of your situation and ask for help. That's what they're there for!

Finally, you could also have a look at other childcare options around UEA. Have a look for Ofsted registered nurseries, nannies and/or childminders both in Diss and Norwich to see if there is any childcare along your route that would help speed up your commute. I'm sure you've done this but I can see 230 childcare providers in Norwich and 11 in Diss so I'm hoping someone will be able to help you!
