jane eyre NEA

hello!

im a student in year 12 and im starting my coursework in a few days - the book i've chosen to compare jane eyre to is atonement by ian mcewan. i just need help formulating common themes or like the main essay question i guess?

right now im thinking of doing either the consequences of (unconventional) desire or the consequences of isolation and how this shapes the narrative but im still unsure! any piece of advice will help greatly!

thank you!!

Hi! I did isolation as the theme for my NEA, and I personally found that using a quote in my question helped to establish a main theme/argument. I'd recommend searching for quotes that fit the themes to centre your question around if you're struggling to think of a question(if that's possible with your exam board - I did aqa) The quote I used was "isolation is the sum total of wretchedness" - Thomas Carlyle.
Hope this helps a bit

Hello! Thank you for your reply.

I do eduqas and they're really iffy so I am a bit concerned about using a quote in the overall question however it is a nice idea to try find quotes that would inspire me!

I think I've decided on the theme of gender and female agency but I'm still not too sure.

Check out the examiner report. That goes into the way they like you to frame the question amongst other things. Really useful before you start.
