HCPC after MSc from a UK University

Hello, I have completed my BSc from India and have applied for MSc in Biomedical Sciences from Manchester Metropolitan University. I wanted to ask if my MSc course is IBMS accredited, will I be able to get the HCPC certificate? Will it be difficult to register after my masters?

In order to register with the HCPC you either need equivalent education and training in India (so have you worked in a pathology laboratory? In which case you can apply as an international applicant).

Or if you are applying through the UK route you must have an IBMS accredited bachelors and complete the IBMS portfolio for a certificate of competence.

I'm afraid the IBMS accreditation of an MSc means nothing for HCPC.

Hello @Radha Panchal

Congratulations on your place with us.

Our MSc Biomedical Science degree is accredited by the IBMS, however this isn't an appropriate route for registration with the HCPC. To be eligible to register with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist, you would need to have completed an IBMS-accredited BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science degree or equivalent, and have completed the IBMS Registration Training Portfolio during work-based training in a clinical diagnostic pathology laboratory. A trainee BMS post (usually 12 months duration) must be completed in an IBMS training approved diagnostic pathology laboratory.

If you would like to any further clarification, you are welcome to contact our Course Enquiries team at [email protected] or on 0161 247 6969.

Hope this helps.
