The Student Room Group

signed up for 2 utilities packages for second year house

me and my friends went through uni homes to find our house for second year and set up our bills package with them no problem. a few weeks later we had an email from our letting agents to set up a bills package with student energy group for a very similar price so we assumed that it was just asking to confim the package we would like. fast forward to move in week and we have been charged by both companies but not the full amount from the student energy group
the cancellation fee from them is £600

if anyone has any advice that would be really appriecated

This isn't entirely helpful now, but when the letting agent brought up TSEG why didn't you say you'd already made arrangements? You generally don't let landlords tell you what utility companies you have to use.

These 'utility package' things are all kinda scammy imo, but if it's outwith the 14 day cancellation period you might be obligated to settle up with them.
