Hi!

I didn’t live in the Coal Yard myself but I know a few people who did, so if you have any questions about anything just let me know and I’ll do my best to find you some answers!

If you’re still looking for students who are living in the same accommodation as you, try looking on facebook for some YSJ 2025 freshers groups and joining them - this is how I found all my flatmates months before even moving in.

See you in September!

Hey!

I’m not 100% on the CoalYard rules around this, but I know for our university managed accommodation they’re quite chill with rules on decoration. For example during fresher’s week there’s poster sales on campus to encourage you to decorate to make your room feel like home, and lots of people had posters and fairy lights etc. Sorry I’m not 100%, but I’ll ask some ambassadors who lived in the CoalYard and get back to you

Best,

Hi! Got a response from another ambassador! They said that the rules can be a little fuzzy here, but the main concern is pulling paint off walls or leaving grease marks. Some students have been told command strips are okay to use while some have used white tac and managed to not damage any paintwork. I think it’s best to play it by ear when you get there and see what everyone else is doing!

Best of luck!
