Heyy I know it's hard to find placements but you can try Considering natural history museums, science museums, wildlife conservation organisations, the biology departments of universities, zoos, laboratories, pharmaceutical companies and vets' practices. Many placements are not advertised so make sure to be proactive and contact them!! Try and research as much as possible especially in your area. But it also depends on what career you wanna do. For example if you wanna do medicine. Work experience like working in hospitality and care is also considered very important work experience! As long as the work experience can bring transferable skills into your career you'll be fine!! You can also try Virtual Work experience on spring pod

You dont need 'work experience' for a Biology degree - it wont make any difference to your UCAS application. So just find something you will find interesting, fun - and dont worry about it being 'relevant'.

Hi there,

as someone with a medical biology degree who was in the same position - I would:

See if local pharmacies will take you on (this is what I did , 2019 when I was in year 12)

Shadow your lab technician in school

use platforms like forage or springpod which offer virtual experience

Please do not worry about biology specific experience when you apply for uni (assuming you are - what year are you in?), we do not expect you to have a lot of experience. However, we do want to see transferable skills - teamwork, leadership, communication etc - which you will have gained from working at your local retailer for example.

Secondly, do not be disheartened if you do not secure anything - a lot of work experience schemes/placements/jobs are primarily targeted towards undergrads.

Kind regards, Jenifer.
