i ******* hate myself

i missed my ib HL requirements for my cambridge offer massively, they wanted 776 and i got 765 i doubt theyll let me in even though i reached my overall required score, worst part is i only needed 2 marks for a 7 in english. st andrews wants a 666 and hku wants i 766, i have no idea if i'll get into any of those unis. i destroy7ed my mental health just to be this close....

this happened to my friend last year but with UCL, and they still admitted her, so you still have high chances of getting in, especially since St. Andrew's wants an 18 in HLs overall and you have 18 just with different grades (especially since you got a high overall score, I assume). Don't give up yet!

This will be a rough year for UK student admissions, so you have as much chance as ever of being admitted as a near miss.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't get the results you wanted :console:

I recognise your username from this thread: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7609198 . Did you send in the medical evidence to your Cambridge college before your results day, as they requested? Have you had any contact from Cambridge or have you/your school tried reaching out to your college?

Intersting A-O - why is that?

*When I say 'UK' I mean the UK HE sector, Home student numbers are actually pretty solid, at least with us.

International Student numbers are down quite a bit, (various reasons, government paying silly b*****s with attitude towards HE/immigration among them), so unis will be trying to make up the shortfall anywhere they can. Home tuition fees have been frozen for some time now, so the sector is extremely sensitve to any variation in income from international students.

We're already seeing more well-ranked unis in early clearing, (although they don't often shout about it due to the optics), and I expect that will continue through to AL results day.

Basically I think this will be a good year for any 'near miss' candidates.

Interesting observations from the coal face 🙂. I still wonder about how HMG plans for universities to operate given their simultaneous desire to not raise tuition fees whilst scaring away the cash cows that are internationals by essentially doing The Hostile Environment Mk.II. I presume as part of their plans for net zero, they'll be planting money trees in every campus.

I sent in the medical evidence, and they told me to wait until a level results day for a decision :///

I'm glad you sent it in, that's good. Yes, often unis say to wait until after A Level results day, so that they can see how many other people have missed grades and make a decision based on that. Try not to fret in the meantime! :console:

Please do not 'hate' yourself over this! No matter what the decision.
