Student finance entitlement if already used 2 years worth

Hi all,
I went to university a few years ago and finished first year but dropped out just before semester 2 of the second year as I ended up hating the course/uni experience in general.

I'm now wanting to start again doing a different course and have been accepted for university this academic year 25/26.

SFE states that although I only did 1 semester in second year previously, it still counts as a full year so my entitlement.

My new course is 3 years long full time with an optional placement year.

Given that my entitlement is 3 + 1 - 2 = 2 years only, can I switch my course to the 4 year course with placement year and tell SFE I'm going to self fund the placement year? Which should only be around £1900 and much more manageable than the full £9535.
Effectively making my entitlement 4 + 1 - 2 = 3 years with the 3rd year (placement year) self funded?

Thanks,

Hi there. Sorry, but it cannot be decided which years you would self fund. In the case of the 4 year version, the 3 years that you would be entitled to would go to the last 3 years of the course (2, 3 and 4) and this would then mean that we would only not pay the fee for year 1. Thanks, David
