English National 5

Hi, I am scared for my Nat 5 English

I read a lot but people keep telling me to read articles, where do I find news articles to read? How do you study for it?

Does your teacher just pick the 6 poems you study? I am generally just scared. I tend to forget everything under time pressure.

Any tips or Anything would be appreciated.

Hi,

I understand exam season can be a tricky and worrying time, but I would like to reassure you that you will be absolutely fine, please don't panic! I would say a great way to access different types of articles is looking at different news outlets whether this be through physical newspapers or online websites, both may be handy.

In regards to preparing for exams and the stress of remembering key points, flash cards and mind maps are your best friend! I find both of these methods are great ways to aid memory and remembering to include key points in your writing. Use these to note down key quotes, terminology, theories/concepts etc, which may be useful in your exam. Writing and re-reading are great techniques in aid memory and taking some of the pressure off when it does come to exam day.

I also think it is a good idea to have a go at past papers and practice answering them and marking them, like it is the real thing, this will help with memory and may help to reduce any worries you have. Even better if your teachers can give you feedback on these.

I hope this helps and can provide you with some guidance, through a difficult time. Let me know if you have any further questions
