Hello,

Biotechnolgy is a great subject and with those A-Levels you may be eligible to study it at University of York. This is the subject page which lists all of the units you'd take and just over half way down the page are the entry requirements.

We also have two students from the Biology Department on our chat platform if you have any questions about what the department and York are like. Welcome to ask questions here too 🙂

Hope to see you in York some time,

E.

If you avoid Imperial etc, there are actually plenty of good options that do not require Chemistry :

BSc Biotechnology (2025 entry) | The University of Manchester - AAA-AAB, including two of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics

Biological Sciences (Biotechnology with Enterprise) MBiol, BSc | University of Leeds - AAA, Including biology or chemistry and another science or science-related subject.

Biotechnology BSc - University of Birmingham - AAB including two from Chemistry, Biology, Human Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Statistics - at least one of which must be Chemistry or Biology/Human Biology

Biotechnology (BSc) - Undergraduate, University of York - AAB including Biology and a second science from Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Further Mathematics, Geography, Geology, Mathematics, Physical Education, Physics, Psychology or Statistics.

Biomedical Engineering BEng | Undergraduate study | The University of Sheffield - AAB including Maths and one of Chemistry, Physics, Biology/Human Biology, Electronics, Engineering, Technology, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Further Mathematics or Statistics

etc etc

Hi agricultural-gur, 👋

We offer a BEng and MEng in biomedical engineering and we do not ask for chemistry!

Our entry requirements are AAA, including Maths and a science. Or AAB, including Maths and a science + A in a relevant EPQ; or AAB, including Maths and a science + A in AS or B in A Level Further Maths. 👍️

This course is ranked number one in the Russel Group for teaching on tsubject of bioengineering, medical and biomedical engineering. This course is also ranked 4th in the UK (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025).

This course will give you access to cutting-edge, state-of-the-art facilities designed to enhance your learning and research. You’ll work in specialised biomedical spaces, including the Bio Mammalian and Bio Bacteria labs, as well as advanced areas like the Microfabrication room, Electronics Cleanroom, and the Pilot Plant in the Diamond building.

There is also a broad choice of specialisms available! 🤩

If you're interested in reading more about the course, here is the link to our university course webpage.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I'd be more than happy to help! 😄

All best wishes,
Phoebe
