Cambridge offers for 4 Alevels

Was wonderful if anyone knew whether If I were to apply for natural sciences at Cambridge with 4x A* prediction, my offer most likely be for 4x A* or could it in theory be slightly lower, say 3x A* and an A in my fourth subject (unrelated to the course)?
Thanks!

I don't mean to be mean here, but seriously? Obviously you can apply with those grades. Also, despite the hype and people's stress, the required grades are more along the lines of A*A*A or A*A*AA not A*A*A*A*

Sorry yes, that wasn’t my question, I maybe didn’t word it very well. I may be able to get 4 predicted A*s but I don’t think I can achieve that in my actual exams so I was wondering whether people knew if offers are always what you are predicted or could be lower?

His offer was A*A*AA
Be careful what you wish for tho he’s found it VERY tough

Why are you doing a 'fourth subject unrelated to the course'?!!

Because I really enjoy it but didn’t want to go into it at university (Latin)

The problem with it is that there is always a danger when taking four A levels that you might recieve an offer based on all four! If you were taking three, you'd just receive a 'normal' offer if your college wanted to offer you a place. In other words, were you not taking four A levels, there would be no chance of having to worry about whether you might recieve an offer for A* or A in Latin.

The only useful fourth A level for NatSci would be FM for physical Natsci. Latin, whilst obviously useful from a biology point of view, and interesting in its own right, has no real relevance to your application. Applicants sometimes receive a 4-A level offer if they're on the weaker end of the cohort, or you might be asked to achieve an A* in a particular subject if there were some doubt as to your ability in it, or the college wanted the reassurance of an achieved A*. It's unlikely that a subject as irrelevant to your intended course of study as Latin is would end up with a mandated A*, I think.

Thank you, that is all very helpful to think about

They normally give you an offer for just three subjects

Hi Anonymous,

With those predicted grades, I think you should be fine but it all comes down to what the university decides. Some people can have all the entry requirements but they still don't get accepted.

A piece of advice when it comes to exams, one way that I boosted my grades was by doing a load of past papers since there are only so many questions the examiner can ask you. Plus, you start to get used to seeing exam papers & doing them over & over again. It kinda gets rid of the shock some people get when they open their exam papers.

Hope that helps!

Some colleges routinely make four A-Level offers for those who apply with four A-Levels. It does not confer any advantage at application but colleges want to make sure that people do the A-Levels they say they will at the point of application.

Best answer I've read in a while. You're selecting not merely for narrow strategic reason but for love of learning, which if they have any sense will reflect very well on you as an applicant.

My DC at Cam doing natski .. offer varies college to college & extent to whether they want you / decide to set the bar high . His offer was A* A* A* A but he knows others who had 4x A* offers and those with 3 A levels with A* A* A . They also he thinks took in to account the then NSAA score ( his was not great ) . However, it is a really tough course and many struggle with it .. he loves it but it is not for the faint hearted ! You will have to put in a lot of hours & the first year exams are brutal . Second year is less stressful.. he was told .
Good luck

Which four subjects did he take?

Maths , further maths , biology, chemistry .. They insisted on a* in chem & maths leaving him choice on the other two .. in the event he got 4 x A* so it didn’t matter . There is an awful lot of stuff to learn in the first year so it’s not unrealistic they ask for high grades . He said a levels were easy comp with revising for exams at end of year 1
