I recently graduated from the University of East Anglia with an undergraduate degree in Film and Television Studies. My journey to UEA began in 2022, when I went through Clearing after deciding to reject my first-choice university. I was uncertain about the financial cost of living and travelling distance from home, and I remember feeling unsure about my decisions.
Before results day, I had begun researching universities on UCAS and narrowed my options down to UEA and the University of Nottingham. I spoke to both unis over the phone, receiving a verbal offer from each. Eventually, I officially released myself into Clearing and received an official acceptance from UEA.
Waiting for UCAS to update was nerve-wracking! I checked almost every hour and worried I might regret my decision. But when I finally received the confirmation email, I was able to apply for accommodation. At UEA, all first-year students are guaranteed accommodation. Even though I hadn’t visited before, I knew I wanted an en-suite room and was allocated to Colman House.
I attended a Clearing open day, where I was taken on a tour by a lovely student ambassador ( a role I would later take on myself). At first, I felt daunted, but the campus was beautiful, and meeting my course leaders reassured me. Moving-in day, while a little stressful, went smoothly with lots of direction from all the staff.
Freshers Week was fantastic, with lots of activities to join and student ambassadors to show you to your classes. Looking back, I can say no matter your journey, there will always be advice and guidance provided if needed. Clearing doesn’t need to be stressful or shameful- in fact, I’ve met loads of other students through Clearing. It’s a brilliant pathway and can really help you find your way!
Good luck to everyone! Feel free to ask for help 😊
