Southampton uni
hey i’ve been trying to find any group chats or societies for southampton pharmacology students but haven’t had any luck so i just wanted to reach out in case anyone knows of anything i could join i’m really hoping to connect with people who are doing the same course because i’ve been hearing from a lot of people that it’s really difficult and honestly it’s been making me a bit anxious so it would be helpful to talk to someone who’s already been through it or is currently doing it i also just want to get a better idea of how the assessments are and what to expect for next year so i can feel a bit more prepared and hopefully reassured because right now i feel like i have no clue what’s coming and i really don’t want to go into it blind so if anyone’s willing to share their experience or recommend a group chat or anything like that i’d really appreciate it

Congratulations on your offer to study pharmacology at Southampton!! I know it can be daunting and you might be feeling like it will be difficult to meet people but I can assure you that you will make friends on your course and meet so many other people as well. As far as I'm aware, there is currently no specific Pharmacology Society at Southampton (although, you can form your own society 👀 if that's something you'd want to do). However, there are many medical societies, which you can have a look at here. Also, the university has strong connections with BPS - the British Pharmacological Society, which offers free student membership, providing access to valuable resources and information for pharmacology students.
In terms of trying to connect with people pre-starting university, I would suggest asking around in threads on here and Unibuddy, like confirmed Southampton students starting 2025 or uni of Southampton pharmacology students starting 2025. I'm sure there are people in the same position as you, just trying to find others to connect with.

There is a society for BBNP students (Biology, Biomed, Neuroscience and Pharmacology students) called BIOSOC. Its the main Life Sciences society, if you have any questions, feel free to DM their Instagram they will be able to help as a lot of the modules for pharmacolgy are taken by us Biomed students.
