Student finance for restarting Year 1 at a different uni — how does it work?

Hi, I’ve just completed my first year at my current university and achieved the grades I need to transfer to a different university, where I’ll be starting again from Year 1.

I’m a bit confused about how to sort out student finance for this. Do I just update my existing Student Finance application with the new course and university details, or do I need to submit a brand new application from scratch?

Also, do I need to officially withdraw from my current university first before updating anything with Student Finance?

Would really appreciate any advice from anyone who's been through this or knows how it works.

Hi there. We need a new applicaiton for each Academic Year you study. So, yes your would need to make a new applicaiton. Is your new course full time and was the previous course full time? Thanks, Leah.

Thanks, you should be completely fine to re-apply and then give us your new course details there. If you have any trouble let us know.

Thanks, Graeme

Thank you for this. I just want to clarify whether i would have to withdraw from my current university before re-applying at my new one.

You don't need, no. If the university did tell us you withdrew you would be required to apply as a new student on a PN1 form, rather than a returning student. Thanks, Leah.
