Can my college reject me due to medical reasons having adverse effects on my GCSEs

During yr 11 and end of yr 10 I experienced a medical condition that (in my doctors words) “severely effected my capacity to learn” and effected my attendance, as a result I ended up getting 6s and 7s instead of the straight 8s/9s that I was predicted. My college are now rejecting me from my course despite the doctors letter and proof that I performed well in mocks and had the predicted grades due to me getting a 6 in maths when a 7 is required to take a level maths and chem. I have the chance to appeal, but unsure whether I will gain anything out of this. Just extremely frustrated as I had no control and was wondering if anyone can advise me on how to go about this. I have looked at resitting my maths gcse in November as could comfortably get a 9 but the college say that would be too late. It has always been my goal to go to med school, but unsure what route I should now be looking at taking. I appreciate any responses.

I'm sorry to hear this. It must indeed be frustrating. However, there are a couple of things here.

Firstly, welcome to the real world. Do you think the tennis player who was about to win a match but then sustained an injury got the win anyway because they handed a medical note to the referee? This is life I am afraid and in general, life is unfair. Those who succeed accept this and use these set backs to their advantage.

However, in terms of you and your future, it is worth noting that A/A* students generally achieve such grades because they are A / A* students. The setting they are in has little to do with their success. You therefore do not need this particular college to succeed in your ambitions if you are truly motivated.

Good luck in your future.

What would be the factual basis of any 'appeal'?
