University admission tests

Hi I am a year 12 student studying the IB and interested in applying for physics in UCL, Bath, Warwick and St Andrews. I noticed that there aren’t any admission tests required for these universities, such as the ESAT, but I wanted to know whether taking an admission test would help my application? Regardless whether the university requires it for the course.

If they're not requirements, then there won't be any formal consideration given for completing those aptitude/admission tests such as an ESAT or PAT.

However, you could mention it in your personal statement as a sign of your ability, even though it won't be formally evaluated.
But is it worth it if it's not required? No.

Admission staff would much rather see high predicted grades (reveals your ability anyway), and relevant extra-curriculars like Physics Olympiads, EPQ, relevant Summer Schools, research project's and even online courses on your personal statement as opposed to a non-required aptitude test as these are more clear points for comparison between students and show motivation/passion for the subject/topic in physics beyond just having an ability to learn.

If the Uni doesn't require them, they are meaningless to that application.
Its totally pointless doing them. And mentioning that you did this even though you didnt need to to will mean zilch in a PS - about as useful as mentioning a swimming badge. And btw, Unis who don't use these tests, can't actually access the results anyway.
