The Student Room Group

Is anyone applying to the Sutton Trust US Programme this year (the 2026 cycle)?

If so I'd love to make a little community while we wait for GCSE results and discuss ECs!

They are looking for at least all 7s for GCSE grades. If there are exceptional circumstances that have caused you to have lower GCSE grades (eg teacher absence), you should 100% put that (there will be a section on the application to do so). If your extra curricular activities are really good (unique, powerful, big community impact) then they may consider you. You should also make sure to do the video response and show genuine passion and interest in the programme.
I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions

The staff that manage the programme use a holistic process in assessing applications, so if your extra curricular activities are really good (unique, powerful, big community impact) then they may consider you. The process for picking universities is quite extensive. The staff will provide you with an Excel spreadsheet with about 40 institutions in the US that are labelled as 'strategic' choices for UK applicants. You are expected to research each institution, and then pick which one's you like the most. You will have plenty of exclusive opportunities to research specific institutions (whether that be campus visits during your US week, Harvard college fair, or USA College Day). You will receive a lot of support in choosing which university is right for you.
I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions
