What should I do?

So basically there is this guy that I knew a looooong time ago because we were added on a gc back in 2023. Like 5 days ago, I saw his account on instagram and I decided to follow. He then requested to follow me and i accepted. He then asked me ‘hi do Ik u?” And then I reminded him of me. He likes anime like jjk, one piece and even squid game, and am interested in squid game too. We started talking but he was dry. I tried to keep the convos going but he never tried. He sometimes even leaves me on seen. We added each other on TikTok too btw because he wanted me to send him some good edits. Like he told me to add his TikTok. Yesterday woke up and he send me a comment about squid game, and that was the second time he sends me stuff after me sending lots. We started having a convo about the comment. At the end I said that I had to go and that its nice to have someone you can talk to about my favourite series and he replied with “same” “cya”. Hours passed and I send a TikTok to him. He replied right away and then I replied too. He left me on delivered even tho he was active on both insta and TikTok. Btw am not looking for a relationship but just a small friendship. I mean he asked me once what I look like and I sent a pic of my face with only my mouth showing (it was a selfie). I know what he looks like because he has a highlight on his insta just about him taking selfies. My intention of posting this is that I want help with making him a bit more engaging and maybe start a good friendship. Today, I sent him a funny TikTok and he just left me on seen. Hours pass by and I send him a TikTok that he reposted and I asked a question about it. His repost was about a famous YouTuber that allegedly sa’d a girl. I was like “i keep seeing this but what is actually going on”. Thank god he was active and he explained. So how should start a making him more engaging? I am F17.

Honestly...if he leaves you on seen that's not great I mean friendship should be a two way street...it's sorta like he's ignoring you and personally one person should not be making all the effort. It seems like your the only person actively starting conversations so maybe I'd keep him at an arm's length and sew how things go? Maybe see if he starts a conversation in the next week and if he doesn't I'd say maybe distance yourself because putting your time and energy into someone who doesn't appreciate that energy and care isn't worth it and could make you feel really bad. That's just my thoughts tho but keep me updated! I hope he's a true one

So today I found out he is one year younger than me and to be honest, that doesn’t mean anything. We can still be friends. He is becoming more active and he even told me to “be myself” because I asked him if I was annoying him by me sending him TikTok’s. I think he is becoming less cold. He even sends me things from time to time today. Thanks tho!

Hi! I read your post, and I totally get how you’re feeling. It’s exciting but also frustrating and a little confusing, right? Talking to someone who shares your interests is fun, but it’s normal to feel a bit upset if they don’t reply much.
Here’s what I’d suggest:

Don’t try to force the conversation—just keep it natural and fun.

Share short, funny TikToks or memes—it keeps things light.

Instead of asking a bunch of questions at once, just ask one interesting question at a time.

Appreciate it when he does respond, but don’t stress if he doesn’t.

Remember that friendships can grow slowly, and your worth isn’t tied to whether he replies or not.

Friendships should feel fun and easy. If you keep things relaxed and enjoy sharing what you like, a good friendship might naturally develop. And even if it doesn’t, it’s okay—you’ll learn more about the kind of friends you want!
