I regret my university choice, is it too late?

So, i’m currently at the University of Southampton ona French, German and Linguistics degree and havenot adjusted to it. There have been some positives and i’ve learnt a lot and made friends but i have felt from the very beginning that it’s not the place i should be in. I have found the teaching subpar, the language modules uninspired and very dull, and feel like the language teachers honestly don’t care about what they are teaching. Also the city itself leaves so much to be desired, and as much as i’m used to it all, it’s not for me. I have a strong academic background: GCSE (all 9s) and A level grades (3 A*s and A) but chose Southampton from a very different place than i am in now. I am about to go on my year abroad which i am really excited about but can’t shake the thought of dropping out after the year is over ( not going back to Southampton in 4th year) and applying to Oxford for their Law and European Law BA (I would try and apply during this3rd year period). I’ve been thinking of converting to Law anyway so this would satisfy the current dilemma… is this even feasible from a SFE perspective?

SFE calculates funding entitlement for a new course as follows:

Length of new course + 1 - previous study (full and partial years count towards previous study)

For example, if you want to study a new 3-year course and have already studied for 2 years the calculation would be:

3 + 1 - 2 = 2 years of funding.

In this example, you would not receive a tuition fee loan for the first year of the course, but might still be eligible for a maintenance loan for that year.

Yes, this sounds correct - about Compelling Personal Reasons (CPR) please see the link below for more details. We can potentially award you an additional year of funding.

Thanks, Graeme
