clearing on results day

do you have to decline the offer from your firm uni before calling other unis for a place? or are you able to decline the offer after receiving the verbal offer through clearing?

Its recommended to call the clearing university and get a verbal offer before declining your firm choice. I'm planning on doing this too, good luck :smile:

Hope you’re well. You don’t have to decline your firm offer before calling other universities. In fact, you shouldn’t decline anything until you’ve received an offer through Clearing from the university you’re interested in.

Here’s how it works:

Call the universities first and check if they’ll accept you based on your grades.

•

Once you have made an offer, the university will email you explaining what you need to do next to accept it and make arrangements for student finance or accommodation if you need it.

This way, you don’t risk giving up a confirmed place without securing another.

Hi there,

Always call other unis and get verbal offers elsewhere before declining your firm or releasing yourself into clearing. Releasing yourself into clearing is not a reversible decision and you must be 100% sure that A) you want to do it, and B) you have a verbal offer at another uni which is a better match for you, before doing it.

Just to add that many unis will not give you a verbal offer unless you are physically in clearing. There is nothing to stop you calling them otherwise though.
