UEA Accommodation

Hi everyone,
I'm going to UEA this September to study Medicine and I was wondering how big are the rooms? The 360° Tours on the website aren't really helping me. Also is there a size difference between the Village and On-Campus accommodation? I don't really want a small room and the price difference between these two isn't a dealbreaker.

Hi there! Both The Village and on-campus accommodation have similar layouts and vary in size between 8 and 11 square metres. What this means is if you were to be allocated a room in either The Village or ensuite campus, it would be random as to which size room you would get.

Sorry I can't be of more help! I was happy with my ensuite campus accommodation and the size didn't really bother me as I spent most of my time socialising in the kitchen or outside the flat. Do let me know if there's anything else I can help with 😊

What are the differences between The Village and On-Campus accommodation?

Morning!

You can find a side-by-side comparison here but I'll break it down a bit more. I am going to assume you're looking at en-suite campus.

Firstly, the Village is only en-suite, and is getting a revamp this summer, so if you wanted to save money on toilet and shower facilities the campus accom would have that.

Secondly, room sizes are roughly the same, so no big difference there!

The Village has around 6-8 people in a flat whereas campus can be from 2-13 depending on the type you go for.

The Village does not come with a desk lamp

The Village has a shower pod while campus has a shower room. I stayed on campus and my shower room was basically a wet room with a shower behind a shower curtain- so basically just a normal shower 😊

The Village has a convection oven, hob and microwave while campus has a combination convection/microwave
oven, hob and grill (so in my flat we had a microwave oven and a normal oven).

The Village is cheaper to stay in than on campus.

And finally... the Village is about a 15 min walk from campus, probably 10 if you're a speed walker. I would say this is the biggest difference. I stayed in Britten House and was a 2 min walk from lectures, so it would be up to you where you wanted to be at the heart of campus of a little further out. I wouldn't say this means you socialise any less or are any less likely to make friends as the Village is a really lovely little community.

Here's a photo (sorry if it's bad quality) comparing the Village to where I stayed:

The almost-white, square building next to the flag is the main hub with the LCR, SU and coffee shop etc.... so that gives you a bit of a comparison.

I hope this helps and let me know if you have any more questions!
