Low Grade 4th A-level and Universities

Hi, the prediction for my 4th A-level, which is maths (approx. C/D) is very low compared to my other subjects (approx. A/A*), yet it is veryyy much recommended for the course I want to do. Will universities interpret that badly? Is it worth just dropping it, since I already have done the AS, so that I would not have such a low predicted grade?

If Maths isnt a required subject and the meet the subject /grade requirements with you other subjects, then they will just ignore it. And - drop Maths now to give yourself of getting decent grades in the others.

Which course? That will make a lot of difference.

Hi @E.e.0 ,

This depends on how "very much recommended" it is. Is maths a required A-level for the course? You could discover this through heading on the universities course page and seeing their entry requirements. If it is required, then yes a low grade can make a difference.

If it isn't specifically mentioned/ required, then I would not worry too much as you have excellent grades in your other subjects. If you are still worried and want an exact answer, you could try contacting the universities directly and asking the significance of maths A-level on the application.

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
-Sophia (University of Central Lancashire)

PPE/Politics and Economics... I found out that I'm eligible for extra time literally this month so I feel like I haven't been able to prove myself with maths, since the maths department only takes test results into consideration 😕 unlike the essay subjects which consider hw when deciding grades.
