How to get to know your university if you can't visit

Can't visit universities in person? Here's how to still get a feel for them 👇

Not everyone can make it to open days or campus tours- but that doesn't mean you can't still figure out if a uni is right for you. Here's how:

1. 🖥️ Virtual tours- Most unis like City have online tours where you can explore the campus, libraries, lecture halls, and accommodation.

2. 📲Social media- Instagram and TikTok accounts (e.g @citystgeorgesuni) often show real student life- events, societies, day to day stuff you won't see on the official site.

3. 💬 Chat to students- Many unis use Unibuddy where you can message current students and ask about the courses, uni life, or anything else.

4. 🎙️ Online Q&As- Look out for webinars and online info sessions. You can hear from lecturers and admissions staff and ask your own questions.

5. 📹 YouTube & vlogs- Try searching "Day in the life at (uni name)" to get an idea of what a typical student day looks like.

6. Ask questions- If anything isn't clear, just email or message the uni directly.

Hope this helps anyone trying to choose a uni without being able to visit in person! ☺️

Hi @Sandy CityUniRep

Great tips!!

I was thinking a few more ideas...

UCAS/Higher education fairs - Look out on the UCAS website for when they will be doing fairs in a city near you as lots of representatives and students from each university have a stand at these fairs that you can go up to and ask questions and have conversations.

Ask your current teachers - Ask around at your college or sixth form as someone will probably know someone who has been to the unis you are thinking of going to and might be able to give you some insight or a contact.

Instagram - Like already mentioned the university Instagram is great but there are also a range of Instagram's that may be helpful to look at like the course insta, student union and societies.

Local area - Also maybe just do some research on the local area, especially if it is a city uni this can help you get a good idea of what it might be like to live their.

Hope this helps and good luck making your decisions!
