accommodation at university of sheffield

I can’t decide whether to live in city accommodation or ranmoor/endcliffe… i really want to make friends because i don’t have many so i really need that busy social environment. i think city accom makes sense because its not too far from campus, a 30 min walk to and from everyday does not sound convenient for me esp because im not used to walking for that long, and waking up early or just when its really cold but then again i love the idea of that kind of community over the city accom
i’m not sure what to do, ive been stuck for some time now, please help me out, and ill be studying engineering

I’d def say go Endcliffe or Ranmoor over city, there’ll be more a lot more first years there and broomhill/Ecclesall as nice area to live in really, very close to the park and lots of places to eat/drink

Hi Kirsten mudiwa, 👋

It's great to hear you are starting at the University of Sheffield and are choosing university accommodation!

I stayed in Endcliffe for the entirety of my undergrad because the area was perfect for me. Yes, it's about a 20-25 minute walk to campus but the walk in is a great way to connect with people. When I first started, I found a facebook group of my subject and was able to connect with people on there and we arranged to meet and walk into university together and it was a great way to meet new people and explore the city. 😄

Also there are plenty of buses into the university that are cheap and regular (there were a few occasions when I opted for the bus instead of the walk on a tired morning!) But I would recommend Endcliffe or Ranmoor. The city accommodation is also great and I know a few people who stayed there and enjoyed it just as much, so it comes down to personal preference. All accommodation campuses have that warm community feel so you will feel welcomed whichever you choose! I loved how endcliffe is situated so close to the Botanical gardens and Endcliffe Park. 🌳🌿

If you have anymore questions about accommodation or studying/living in Sheffield, please let me know and I'd be more than happy to help!

All best wishes,
Phoebe ☺️
