Choosing Oxford Colleges

Hi, I am a prospective Oxford history student, but I am undecided for my college choice. The colleges I liked were Brasenose, St Hugh’s, Trinity and Oriel. I am aware of the pooling system used in the application process, but which colleges specified would you recommend/not recommend. Yet at the same time, I am skeptical at the over-subscripted nature of certain colleges, are any of those specified particularly oversubscribed?

Whichever college you end up at if made an offer, you will receive a high standard of education. From year 2 onwards and depending upon which topics you choose from the course, you are likely to receive some tutes at other colleges. College preference is therefore down to things like location, architecture, whether it can offer 3 years of accommodation, sports clubs and other societies, facilities, bursaries, size of undergrad population etc.
St Hughes is prob the least oversubscribed from your list because it's a bit further north from the city center but has some v pleasant grounds. The other three are not the most oversubscribed colleges but get plenty of applications.
If possible you may want to take the opportunity of looking around all these colleges at the next Open day on the 19th Sept.

Hertford is also worth considering perhaps? Oriel is also ancient like Hertford. Trinity is smaller than most college intakes and St. Hugh's is where Barrister and wife of George Clooney i.e. Amal Clooney studied Law. 🙂
