Uni transfer KU to rhul

I just completed first yr fine art at Kingston uni and it wasn’t for me. I’m considering switching to psychology in my current uni or switching to rhul .

How would I go about this , do I just apply through clearing ?
Do I need a personal statement?

#royal Holloway

Thanks

For switching to Psychology at your current university, Kingston, you could try contacting the admissions team and see if you can bypass the whole UCAS application process ([email protected] or +44 (0)203 510 0106). However, for Royal Holloway, you'd need to apply via UCAS. (This is likely to be the case for Kingston too.) And, as it's now after 5th July, that would be via Clearing.

Kingston's Psychology course is in Clearing now. At Royal Holloway, Psychology is not in Clearing, although Applied Psychology is. Both universities have Clearing hotlines which is might be worth talking to informally about the viability of this option before spending ages on your UCAS application.

Every UCAS application should include a personal statement - even when you're applying through Clearing.

Hi Meowmilkshake,

We understand that changing from one field of study to another can be a big decision, and it's great that you're considering your options. Whether you choose to continue at Kingston University or switch to Royal Holloway, here's a couple of things you can do to help with the process:

👉️ Look into the psychology department at Royal Holloway here. Check the entry requirements, course structure, and any prerequisites you might need.

We also recommend reaching out to your current academic advisor or the admissions office at both universities. They can provide specific information about the process and help clarify any questions you might have. You can email our Admissions team here: [email protected].

👉️ If you decide to apply to Royal Holloway, you will likely need to go through UCAS - you'll need to check the availability of places and deadlines. If the application period is over, you might consider applying through Clearing. Take a look at the psychology courses available through Clearing here.

I hope that helps 🙂 if you have any further questions, let us know.

Best wishes,

Hi,

Congratulations, that's great news 🎉

Once you’ve confirmed your Clearing place with us you can apply for accommodation using our Online Accommodation System. You’re guaranteed an offer of accommodation if you join us through Clearing and apply for a room by 11.59pm (UK time) on Tuesday 19 August.

🏠 Take a look at our accommodation pages to get an idea of where you could be living. Please note it can take up to 24 hours after your course place has been confirmed before your accommodation profile becomes active and you’re able to apply!

Hope that helps.

Thank you , speaking of I just recieved an email about accommodation lol.
Also when I applied through clearing the Psychology course I wanted (C800) wasn’t available so I chose a different one (C807) . They are both the same for first year . Would I be able to switch at the start of term? Or at least switch over for second year?

And the course I originally wanted (C800) is now available for clearing but I’ve already been accepted for (C807) 🤦🏾*♀️

Hi again,

I'd recommend calling us on +44 (0)1784 772455 to chat through your options. Our hotline is open Monday to Friday 10am-4pm. You can find out more on this page. Feel free to check out our Clearing 2025 thread for some useful information on Clearing.

Thank you ,
Does the 300 deposit for accommodation come out of the first terms rent ? Or is this an additional payment?

Hi! 😊

Great question, the £300 accommodation deposit at Royal Holloway is separate from your first term’s rent. It’s a refundable deposit, held as security against any potential damage or unpaid rent during your stay.

As long as everything’s in order when you move out (no damage, and all rent paid), you’ll get it back at the end of your contract 👍

Hope that helps!
