The Student Room Group

(URGENT) laet students please help!!

hello!! i've been given a conditional offer to study maths, further maths, art and economics at laet starting this september and had a few questions about the atmosphere there since i've been agonising over choosing to move or stay at my current school (hbs) for sixth form.

1) what is the 'intervention' section of the school timetable that goes up to 4:15 every day? i've heard that you guys have 4 frees but i'm not sure of what 'intervention/extension' is exactly

2) how's the social life outside of school? do people have time to go out with friends or is everyone really burdened with schoolwork (it's like this at my current school already so was hoping for a better school/life balance as i also want to go to the gym, have sports, music and stem extracurriculars and art coursework when i start art a-level

3) how's the teaching style of art a-level there? are there strict instructions on how sketchbooks should look or is there a lot of room for interpretation of the given contexts + basc freedom to do what you want? and what art/creative opportunities are there if any - do some people aim to pursue a career in the creatives? (at my current scho no one is dead set on doing creatives - i'm open to it though)

4) how's the tmua/maths entrance exam support? and does laet have any maths related extracurricular opportunities

5) how's the mental health support? i've heard very mixed reviews haha

6) anything else i should know that people don't really talk about / people are surprised by when they join ???

answers to any of these questions would be VERY much appreciated i'm crashing out over this decision litr every day now x

1) the intervention section is litch what it is, compulsory intervention for those who are falling behind on their subject and acts as a drop in session for the rest of the students
2)trust me you will always have opportunities to go out afterschool , i used to take the mick and go anywhere during sept-dec. we have a really good social life here with many societies doing activities after skl (e.g movie night, games night, karaoke night) so youll have a social both in and out of skl!
3) i dont do art but ik they offer a lot of unique experiences for those who want to do a creative career! (its not a lot but when they do have some, its really good imo!)
4) i dont do maths too but to my understanding tmua is a uni admission test in which theu have weekly sessions afterskl (i think wednesday) for people who are doing it to help themm
5) i personally haven’t had specific issue but they love to remind us about the mental health support that they have on sight as well as having a personal tutor in each form which you meet up 1-to-1 per term/half-term and just talk abt ur life at laet!
6)the only thing that really surprised me is that mostly/every staff member teaches a subject (e.g the headteacher teaches a subject , ur head of year teaches a subject ) idk it just surprised me
happy to answer anymore qs )

the clubs change every term so theres stuff like triva, boardgames, yoga, dance or academia maths puzzle club, us sutton trust, protein crystallisation. sports happen outside of skl (as we dont have a sports hall) so its netball, basketball, football, kickboxing etc

You need to see which school actually offers you a place on results day. What are the over-subscription rules and will you meet them?
