Proof of Dependent help please !

My son has applied for student finance and has been given a reduced amount due to our household income. His twin brother (19) still lives at home and is still dependent on us for board, meals, basic living and not getting a job anytime soon (suspected autism). He does get U/C at £77 P/W which he keeps and uses for gaming etc. I added his name to the claim as a dependent but they're asking for evidence he is financially dependent on us. Would you say he still is as he gets U/C ? He is not giving me any money and I am not giving him any money so don't have any bank statements to prove this. The costs I need to prove are food, electric, gas, clothes etc. I am also worried his U/C would reduce his brothers student finance and wondering if I should leave additional claim well alone ?

Hi there. We wouldn't take UC into account for household income as it's not taxable, so it wouldn't affect the students claim.

If you are able to provide the evidence your son if still financially dependent even if he get's his own UC, then you can still go ahead and supply the evidence. Thanks, Leah.

Thank you. I only have proof that I pay his phone bill would that make any difference to the claim. Or would you suggest I write a letter stating he doesn't pay board etc. Not sure if this is necessary or phone bill is enough ?

Hi there. I would provide this bill but also provide a covering letter if you are able to as the more information the assessor has the better. Thanks again, David
