Special support element

Hello!

I've had my student finance approved. I'm a single parent and am entitled to the special support element, which I provided evidence for.

I have an overpayment this year which has been deducted from my overall award, which I knew of and accept.

In the breakdown however, the 'special support element' isn't listed at all. This needs to be shown otherwise it will seriously affect my universal credit amount.

I was told via the live chat that it's because of the overpayment, the SSE has been 'clawed back' and so isn't shown? This can't be right? It's not extra money, just a protected amount of my overall loan. I have no problem with the overpayment coming off the total amount, but if they won't list the SSE on my award letter it will cost me the best part of £400 per month of universal credit too.

Hi there. When you contacted us were you advised that the SSE had been awarded? Did you have to provide evidence for this? Thanks, David

Yes I was told on the chat three times that they could see it had been awarded, after I had provided evidence a while back.
