will i get into medschool???

Hey guys,

I'm applying for med school in October 2025, and I know I meet the entry requirements for most if not all UK medical schools. I definitely meet the requirements for the ones I want to apply to:

University of Birmingham (Bham)
Aston University
University of Nottingham
University of Manchester
(Potentially considering Keele, Liverpool, and Lancaster, but I haven’t decided yet.)

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could check whether I have a realistic chance at these med schools. I’d love if someone could go over all the ones I mentioned above but my heart is really set on Aston or Birmingham.
Also, I don’t qualify for contextual offers.

Just to clarify I know I meet the requirements for medical school, but what I really want to know is: Do people with a similar profile to mine actually receive offers or get into med school? Or… do I need to rethink my career options?
My head of sixth form told me that, with these grades, I’m essentially being set up to fail, and that I probably won’t get any offers.
Also, I go to avery academic very academic (snobby) private sixth form, and I’ve been at the school my whole life. But I don’t have the same kind of grades that most of the others do so I often feel like I don’t measure up.
That said, I’m still really aspirational, and I genuinely want to pursue medicine. I just don’t know anymore. Please let me know what you think. Thank you so much <3

Here are my grades:
GCSEs:
English Literature: 8
English Language: 8
Maths: 7
Biology: 6
Chemistry: 6
Physics: 6
French: 5
Health & Social Care (Cambridge National Level 2): Distinction*

A-levels (predicted):
AAA (might go up to AAA or A*AA in September not sure yet, since it's currently August)

UCAT:
Currently scoring ~2000 in my first two mocks
Test is in 6 weeks, so I know I have time to improve

ALSO IF I DONT QUALIFY (:frown:) should i take a gap year? get good grades and will i have a better chance then??? idk also personal statement is looking pretty solid anyways let me know xx

UCAT is crucial. You need to look at how universities assess applicants - some you have a decent chance at, others you are unlikely to be shortlisted for interview. Currently medicine is a possibility but you would need a strong UCAT and apply strategically.

To be honest with you, you cant really decide strategically until you have sat the UCAT. So I will look forward to seeing you in 6 weeks.
