Do I need to arrange my Hepatitis B vaccination privately for St George's?

I’ve just completed the Occupational Health Check form for St George’s, and it says the Hepatitis B vaccination is mandatory. I haven’t had the course, and my GP can’t provide it through the NHS.

Should I take matters into my own hands and pay to get vaccinated privately before September, or will St George’s arrange it for me as part of the onboarding process? I’m starting the BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science course this September (2025 entry).

Email the department at St George's and ask this.

I already have, but they are not getting back to me or picking up the phone.

Hey! That’s a great question, and it’s good you’re on top of it early.
For St George’s, especially for clinical/healthcare courses like BSc Healthcare Science, the Hepatitis B vaccine is mandatory because you'll likely have patient contact during placements.
Here’s the usual process:
If you haven’t had the vaccine yet: St George’s usually arranges vaccinations (including Hep B) as part of your Occupational Health clearance once you start or during induction, especially if your GP can’t provide it. They’ll likely contact you for an appointment or clinic once they review your form.
BUT since the full Hep B course can take a few months (3 doses over ~6 months, though there are accelerated versions), it’s smart to get started privately now if:

You want to be fully covered before placements.

You want to avoid delays in your clearance.

If you can afford it, go ahead with private vaccination (some travel clinics or pharmacies offer it). Just keep your receipts and records, they’ll ask for them.
Or, if unsure, you can email St George’s Occupational Health directly (their contact should be in your portal) and ask if they’ll provide it, they’re usually helpful!
