Metal Works Bristol

I’ve been put in Metal Works Bristol, and have literally never heard of it before being given it yesterday morning. Just wondering what the general opinion of the accommodation as it is so hard to find online due to it being new. I applied for accommodations in the city centre so not sure how I feel about being 40 minutes walk out.

Hi! I wasn't in Metal Works but a lot of my good friends were! I'd say the only downside is the distance - the actual buildings are very nice with great study and social areas, good sized kitchens etc.

A lot of people were disappointed with it being so far out but because it's around 800 people (if I remember correctly), it has a feel similar to north village - very social, and you get a good mix of people (mostly because metal works is pretty under subscribed so they chuck a bit of everyone in there).

One thing I would say is to get to uni you'll either be walking to the city centre and then getting a bus (one of the ones included in the free pass), or you'll get 2 buses (m1 to the city centre and then one of the free ones) - if you think you'll go for the 2 bus option a lot then it may be worth paying for the upgraded bus pass which gives you access to all Bristol (and Bath!) buses as the m1 isn't included in the free uni pass (I would maybe hold off purchasing this yet just to see whether they do include the m1 in this year's pass - they did for a few months last year but then stopped but i'm not sure why.)

Overall I wouldn't be too disheartened - afterall there's a huge Asda nearby which is very convenient and the whole place has a really good community feel - Bedminster can get a little dodgy at night so just be aware of that though.
Thekla will be your closest club which is great!! Actually Circuit might be closest (not so great)
Any specific questions just let me know and I can ask my friends who lived there x

Hiya @username7724284, I am so sorry to hear that you did not get the student accommodation of your choice! I was in a similar situation in my 2nd year. I lived a good 30-40mins walk from my uni campus and was living in a part of town with poor bus connections! Although it may be great to get your steps in for the day, it can be a hassle especially during deadline season. If driving is not an option, you can also try cycling using one of those bike sharing apps in your area (eg. Lime, Forest?). After a while, I got use to the walking distance and would just take it as a daily part of my routine so it did not bother me that much in the end. I wish you all the best for your first year at Uni🤗

Metalworks is a good acco for sure. Its brand new still (a year old).
The distance from the Uni is an issue but on the plus side, you still have

newish accom with ensuites

good facilities

loads of other students

all sorts of local stores, cafes and Asda supermarket nearby
