Firm Course on Clearing

I've seen that the course I applied to and chose as my firm is available on clearing, could that mean that if I got a grade a bit lower than required, I would still get my place?
It might. But it depends how far away you are, as well as the results of other offer holders.

Hi @compliant-castaw,

Thank you for your message 😊

If the course you’ve applied for is currently listed in Clearing, that usually means the university still has spaces available for September 2025. In some cases, they may accept students who just miss their offer by a small margin, depending on the competition and how many places are left on results day.

Our advice is to hang tight and see what happens when you receive your results. If you’re slightly below your offer, there’s still a chance you could be accepted, especially if your course remains in Clearing.

Wishing you all the best for results day! If you have any other questions in the meantime, feel free to get in touch.

Best wishes,

Hello!

As Clare from Oxford Brookes mentioned, it’s possible that the university could slightly lower the entry requirements for this specific course. However in some universities, they won’t lower the grade requirements, they will just have open spots for people who are wanting to swap universities/course last minute.

If you slightly miss the grades required (even if the clearing grades are lowered to what you have achieved), you won’t automatically be accepted to the course through clearing - you’ll need to reapply by ringing the university clearing line. Once you have confirmation over the phone that they can extend you an offer, you’ll then request to be released from your insurance university choice and add your new choice to your UCAS as your Clearing option. The university will then confirm that you have a spot.

Clearing moves fast so it’s good to be prepared! If you think you may not have achieved the grades you need (which is a valid worry!), maybe have a little look around universities that offer your course through clearing and have a list of phone numbers for when clearing opens after results day.

But until then, try and relax and keep calm - I’m sure you’ve aced it ☺️

Best,
