Failed essay 2nd year in midwifery

My daughter has failed an essay on the third attempt in midwifery her attendance has been excellent and she has had very good feedback from her placements. She has been told she will be off the coarse and she is devastated she has worked hard and has really enjoyed it. She would so much like to carry on and pass her second year but we are not sure of her options any help would be great.

Hello Markbradley389

The first thing I would suggest for your daughter to do is to contact the course leader immediately. The sooner the better. They would know if it is possible for her to resit the entire second year of Midwifery. Or if she would have to reapply to university and restart the entire course from scratch. Midwifery is a very intense and interesting course. If all else fails her only other option is to go into adult nursing for 3 years to have a better understanding of Anatomy and physiology and the transferable knowledge or skills from nursing to Midwifery and once a qualified nurse. She would then have to do the eighteen month shorter course for Midwifery. Tell her to not give up if becoming a midwife is what she wants to be. She has done really well at getting how far she has. Sorry to hear she has failed the second year. Best of luck to her.

You'll need to discuss it with your university course leaders and maybe involve your university student union representative for further advice on this. Do this asap.

Each individual university has their own rules and regulations regarding the amount of time a student can resist any essays, assignments and exams etc.
