Physiotherapy pre reg masters advice

Hey so i’m pretty much debating whether to do the phsyio pre-reg masters: for a bit of context I hold a 2:1 psych degree, which I’ve seen some unis allow to do the masters. I however didn’t do the best in my biology A-level (got a grade D), so I’m not sure if this will impact my chances? More so, I’m wondering if anyone who has taken this route from a non-scientific background can comment on how it was, and whether it was worth it for them? I’m really passionate about all things exercise and human anatomy has always fascinated me, the idea of healing people through movement seems so rewarding though i have heard that the job is severely underpaid… if someone can help me figure out the pros and cons that would be amazinggg

You need to read the entry requirements for each course to see if you meet them as it does vary by uni. In terms of salary, you would enter the NHS on salary band 5, which is currently around £31k. You should be able to progress to band 6 within two years and with more years of experience, training, etc. you could progress as far as band 8. You could also work in the private sector.

You could also consider taking another undergrad in physio as it is less intense (the pre-reg course is a condensed 2-yr version of the 3-yr undergrad course). You would still enter the NHS on band 5. SFE fully funds both options as physio is an exception course - so you could apply for both tuition fee and maintenance loans.

As above you'd need to check the requirements, or even just give the universities a call to see if they'd accept you onto the course. It tends to be an easier process for master's course as most people hold their grades so a decision is usually straight forward for them to advise on.

In terms of it being underpaid, that's down to what you expect to pay and if you'd trade off some money to get more enjoyment for a role you as passionate about so only you can really decide if the potential earnings are worth it for you.
