Advertising stealing the focus

Hi,
Some of the adverts on your site are stealing the focus on the Chrome browser (PC). For example, if you are typing on a post, all of a sudden you stop typing so and have to click back in the text box to resume typing. 20 seconds later the whole process repeats. Very annoying.

Hi. Thanks for letting us know. It seems that whether this happens depends on the adverts that you are shown. We don't directly control all the adverts shown on the site because many will come from third party ad services.
I'll mention this to our development team because there may be a way we can stop the adverts stealing the focus.

If you notice this happening for any recurring adverts specifically then feel free to let us know. If you could provide the link the advert goes to and a screenshot then we might be able to block the adverts, if they aren't appropriate. Some university adverts are managed by us so if any of them are doing it, we may be able to do something about it.

Will do. It does my head in that adverts are so complicated. My laptop runs so hot on some ad heavy sites. Goodness only knows what those ads are really doing with my processor!

By coincidence, we actually made a change to our ad setup yesterday that has disabled the periodic refreshing. Hopefully that helps with the problem of focus stealing. We may be switching it back on in a couple of months though.

Ads that take a lot of resources are annoying! Sometimes chrome will block them automatically but you can block specific ads by clicking the cross in the top corner and selecting not to show it. You shouldn't get that specific ad again. This is all controlled by the ad providers but hopefully can help too.
