I’m currently in year 12 summer and I currently do history, philosophy and psychology but I don’t really enjoy my subjects. (Psychology is okay but I defo don’t want to pursue is after a levels)
I’m planning to apply for history in uni but I’m not confident it is a subject I want to do for 3 years and I am thinking if I should re-take year 12 in a different school with STEM subjects (possibly chem, bio and maths)
(I want to quickly say that I defo did enjoy chemistry and maths at secondary and I didn’t just randomly pick these subjects bc I’m not enjoying my current ones. I also did initially apply for chemistry at 6th form and tried to switch philosophy to chem at the start of the year but I explain that below.)
I’ve kinda realised that I picked my subjects mainly because I was good at humanities at gsce and the one subject I initially put in my application (chemistry) was chosen because I actually enjoyed it. However, I couldn’t do chem at my school as I didn’t meet the grade requirements for maths to be able to do chem (btw I achieved a grade 7 in maths so nothing crazy low). I know this is very silly but I thought it wasn’t that deep that I couldn’t do chemistry because I didn’t think i’d want to do a certain STEM career that need science (I was thinking about doing law) + like I said before, I was picking subjects based on how good I was at them in secondary but that has clearly come back to bite me in the back.
If I were to retake year 12 I would have to do it at a dif skl as I didn’t meet the requirements for the subjects at my current skl + I don’t think they allow you to repeat years anyways. However, I don’t know any schools that would allow me to repeat a year as I don’t have any special circumstances. In addition, if I am able to retake the year, Id honestly be a bit embarrassed and nervous of being separated from my coherent.
I’m also thinking that I should just firm history and force myself to enjoy it more. Maybe I wont mind it as much if I just get better at it 🤷🏾*♀️(hopefully I can get myself to do this option)
I’ll definitely do research into both subjects but i’m on a tight time limit considering I have a lot of stuff to do this summer for next yr.
So in summary I’m cooked. Any advice would be helpful
