A-Level Prep

I hope to start my A levels at Sixth Form in September, specifically: English Lit, Philosophy, and History.

Does anyone have any tips for these 3 subjects because I feel like I have no prep even though I think I've performed well in my GCSE? I am in the process of completing bridging work, but I still think some help from those with experience will benefit me.

Thank you!

For English lit, reading the texts and maybe watching some videos on analysing them could be a great start!
For history, find out what topics youll be studying and watch some documentaries on those periods, even read a book set in or about that period of time if you can.
I dont know anything about philosophy so not sure there but broadly any documentaries, museums, articles, books, courses etc that you think will be interesting are good so that you can expand your wider reading from right at the start of year 12.

Hey @rileybridge,

As someone who studied A-Level English Lit and achieved an A*, I definitely support DerDracologe's idea of reading the texts beforehand. A lot of the homework I received from A-Level English Lit in the first few months was simply reading - having read the books already meant I only had to skim through the chapter before analysing it in class the next day. It saved me a lot of time overall and made me constantly feel prepared for class.

If you still have some time left over after reading the texts, you could take a quick glance at the past paper questions on them to give you a better idea of key themes/possible discussion points.

Best of luck with A-Levels next year! 🙂
