Hi! I'm looking to apply for Engineering at Oxford and Imperial this year.
I've just started looking at the ESAT and PAT content and tried the 2016 ENGAA Section 1 paper under timed conditions. I got just over 50%) on my first attempt, without having properly gone over the syllabus yet. I definitely found timing to be a big challenge and felt like I had to rush through, which makes me a bit worried about how to improve from here. I've heard it's a good idea to develop strategies to spot easier or more guessable questions, but I'm not really sure how to go about that.
Since PAT is now multiple choice too, I was thinking that it might be okay to practise with past questions from both PAT and ENGAA, but is that actually a good idea? Are they similar enough? Has anyone found useful differences or overlaps between them? I'll have to sit both anyways, but I was just wondering.
I've also signed up to the "Preparing for the PAT" course and will start going over the content properly soon, but would really appreciate any advice on:
Managing time pressure in ENGAA/PAT
How to approach guessing strategy
Whether PAT/ENGAA past papers are cross-compatible for prep
Any tips for early preparation if I haven't done Further
Maths
Thanks so much in advance!
