which dental hygiene and therapy universities read ps?

or rather, which one's are more likely to reject you if your personal statement is about something else like dentistry/medicine? mainly medicine i think ive heard that KCL rejects but i know it is extremely competitive there - more than their dentistry course

i can speak about purely DHT in interviews though since i've done work experience and stuff. thank you <3 i wanna apply to medicine with DHT as my 'backup' though i love both and would be happy with both, but i love medicine just that tad bit more

Just so you know, for september 2026 entry, the personal statement format is now 3 questions with 4000 character limit.

From https://www.ucas.com/applying/applying-to-university/writing-your-personal-statement/the-new-personal-statement-for-2026

‘Why do you want to study this course or subject’
‘How have your qualifications and studies helped you prepare for this course or subject’
‘What else have you done to prepare outside of your education, and why are these experiences useful’
To be honest with you, your answer to the first question would be easier if you applied for dentistry instead of medicine if the dental therapy is your backup, as you can easily explain your interest covering both as they are related.

From kcl: https://www.kcl.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/dental-therapy-and-hygiene-bsc
‘We review the whole of the application including achieved/predicted grades, GCSE/IGCSE performance (where applicable), personal statement and reference. Further contextual consideration and eligible mitigating circumstances are reviewed to finalise interview eligibility.

To be fair, both medicine and dentistry require UCAT, and generally UCAT is the most important thing in determining the interview.

Yeah, KCL is super picky, if your PS leans too hard into medicine, they’ll likely bin it. Some unis are more relaxed (like Teesside, UCLan, maybe Portsmouth), but the more competitive ones (KCL, QMUL, Bristol) expect a PS focused on DHT.
If you’re doing DHT as a backup, make sure at least one version of your PS clearly shows why you’re genuinely into it. Even a few strong lines about hygiene/therapy can help if you're doing the new UCAS format.

hihi sorry for the late reply could you give an example of that? i've been advised everything from under the sun like a hybrid personal statement to universities that don't read them at all lol do i mention dental therapy directly or is it more so talking about my experience in it and reflect on how it makes me a better healthcare professional? thank youuu
