Clearing Courses That Require TMUA

This may sound rather obvious but Im not finding answers elsewhere so I must ask, how do courses that have a TMUA requirement work in clearing? Would applying to them be strictly for those who had sat the exam or is it open to everyone?

For specifics the course im looking at is UCL Economics Bsc, Im a gap year student who already has A*A*B achieved which should hopefully still be sufficient but I didnt sit the TMUA. Am I automatically not considered? Also, do clearing courses typically accept people with slightly lower than the grade requirement? My friend is also looking to apply to it but he's on AAA.

Its very unlikely that Economics at UCL would need to be entered into Clearing.
If you get high enough grades, take a gap-year and reapply.

Hi @AnthonySP

It's great to see you want to study economics!

While some universities may relax their requirements during clearing and possibly their TMUA requirement, this is not always the case for the vast amount of universities requiring it.

From my brief research, I cannot see that course currently open for clearing at UCL. You may wish to look into this yourself. Your best bet is to either expand your search to other universities or apply through UCAS for the 2025/2026 applications, this also gives you time to improve your grades if required.

If you decide to expand your search, you can either use UCAS or the universities websites to check their clearing availability. There are plenty of wonderful universities that teach this course so don't be afraid to look around!

I hope this helps, please feel free to ask me any questions,
-Sophia (University of Central Lancashire)
