Becoming a historian

Hi is maths history and psychology at a level good enough to become a historian

The only A Level you really need for BA History is history (and some unis don't even require that). What's more important is finding the area of history you are passionate about and hopefully getting some form of work experience.
As above, the only require subject is A-level History (and even then not all history degrees necessarily require A-level History).

Your A-level choices are unlikely to make a big difference in the long run since you will realistically be aiming to get a bachelors, masters, then PhD to become a "historian" such as it is. Focus on the long game! Take what you do well in and enjoy now and aim to do the same in your undergraduate

History is the main one that matters, and psychology can actually help you understand people and society better. Maths isn’t directly related, but it won’t hurt either.

Becoming a historian isn’t just about getting a degree—it’s about building a research mindset. I’ve found it helpful to read beyond the curriculum and engage with primary sources early. Internships at archives or museums can give you a clearer sense of the field. If you're aiming for academia, developing a focused research interest early on really strengthens future postgrad applications.
