The Student Room Group

Eligibility

My course begins on 5 January 2026, just 25 days before I meet the “half my life” requirement. Given how close I am to meeting this rule and the fact that I have spent the majority of my childhood and young adulthood in the UK I kindly ask that you exercise discretion in approving my eligibility.

The UK is my home. I completed most of my education here and have built my life, friendships, and ambitions around being a full part of this society. I am committed to contributing positively and pursuing higher education to support my future.
I arrived in the UK on 16 December 2014, when I was 11 years old, and I have lived here continuously for more than 10 years. I meet the key eligibility conditions for student finance:

I was under 18 when I arrived in the UK

I have been ordinarily resident in the UK for over 3 years before the start of my course

I will have lived in the UK for half of my life as of 30 January 2026

Hi there,

Do you expect to get Indefinite Leave or Settled Status in the near future? If so, do you know when this will happen?

Thanks, Graeme

I have limited leave to remain and in 2027 when I next renew I’m applying for indefinite leave to remain

Thanks, based on what you've said you're currently not eligible for funding from us, unfortunately. Once you get Indefinite Leave to Remain that will change, however.

At the moment, do you have any UK or EU family members living in Britain at the moment?

Thanks, Graeme
