Accounting and Finance at Uni

I'm currently in the year 12 summer holiday period with 5 weeks left until year 13 begins. I'm planning on applying to Accounting and Finance for Universities, 2 being Russel groups, 2 being mid-tier and 1 being a safe option. However, my subjects don't align with the course: IT, Criminology and Graphic Design with an AS in Core Maths.

I'm obviously applying to Uni's that won't need A-Level maths so I'm going to need a really good personal statement. Officially, I have no work experience or really obvious interests in the field so I need help. However, I'm planning on attending an open day for my firm Uni for Accounting and Finance, and plan on asking my teacher to reference that in the UCAS application. Any other tips would be appreciated because beyond that, I have nothing.

1) Criminology isn't an A level. Check that your intended Unis will accept it ,some won't.
2) You don't need 'relevant work experience' for a degree in A&F. Its an academic degree not an apprenticeship.

Hey tanjir08! 👋 Here are a few tips that might help you out:

1️⃣New Personal Statement Format! ✍️ UCAS is changing things up and personal statements are going to follow a more structured format, making it easier to write. The questions you'll need to answer are: Why do you want to study this course/subject? How have your studies helped you prepare? What else have you done outside of school that shows your interest or skills? This structure will help you focus on what really matters! 🔥

2️⃣Entry Requirements Are More Flexible Than You Think! Mid-tier unis like Bangor University (I work here, so though I’d mention it) accept between 104–136 UCAS points (that’s around BBD to AAB), and they accept a range of A-levels, even if they’re not directly related to Accounting & Finance. Just make sure you’ve got at least a GCSE Maths at grade C/4 👍My guess is that plenty of other universities will be the same. Just check the entry requirements!

For example 👉️ Accounting and Finance at Bangor University, entry requirements

3️⃣What Unis Are Actually Looking For 🎯 Your personal statement doesn’t need to scream “I’ve always loved spreadsheets” 😂 what matters is showing that you’re interested, motivated, and willing to learn. Talk about transferable skills from your subjects like attention to detail from Graphic Design or analytical thinking from Criminology. 💡

4️⃣About Your Reference 📄 You said you want to ask your teacher to mention you visiting the open day. That’s a great idea! 👏 But just a heads up: UCAS advises not to tailor the reference to one uni because all 5 unis will see it. Your teacher will know how to word it in a way that still helps you overall, so just have a chat with them 😊

Good luck. Sounds like you're on the right track! You've got time to make your application solid 💪✨

Ffi 😊
