A levels choices for PPE

Hi,

I'm currently trying to decide which A-Levels to pick for year 12. I'm most likely to do PPE at uni, and am strong in sciences, english, and history. I'm also not sure whether I should do maths at A-levels - I've been consistently getting 8s/9s throughout the year, but I'm not sure if I'm strong enough at it. I'm also not sure whether I should do 3 or 4 A levels. Please let me know what you would recommend me to do.

Thanks!

Check the A-level requirements for PPE at universities in which you are interested. Are there any subjects that you need to take?

I need at least one, preferably two, of the following:

Accounting; Economics; Finance; Business Studies; Development Studies; Government and Politics; Economic and Social History; Mathematics; Anthropology; Sociology; Philosophy; Religious Studies; English Language; English Literature; Geography; Psychology; Classical Civilisation; History; Archaeology; Communication Studies; Environmental Studies; World Development; Biology; Chemistry; Physics; Modern Languages.
Another uni just said that the recommended subjects are ones like politics, economics, philosophy, english, sociology, maths, history etc.

Its a pretty wide range of subjects so I don't think I need to base it around them that much.
Right now I'm thinking about doing english lit, history, maths, and politics, but i dont know if that'll be too hard.

Do some PPE courses require maths?

Hey,
I don't recommend taking 4 A-levels. It is a lot of pressure and if you spend a certain amount of time on three A-levels then you can get high grades but if you spend the same amount of time on four A-levels you'll get average grades. Besides, universities really don't care if you sit 3 or 4 A-levels, unless you're applying for Oxbridge. Especially if you have 4 Bs rather than 3 As. (Hope that made some sort of sense)

And don't just take subjects you're good at, take subjects you enjoy. Maths is a very difficult subject to take if you don't enjoy it.

Choose the A levels you will enjoy studying, and where those choices leaves other doors open to you if you change your mind about PPE. If you have a Maths-head, then Maths, Economics plus one-other etc. If you are more essay-subject orientated, then look at Politics, Philosophy, History etc.

It depends where you're looking to apply -- a number of PPE courses either require or strongly prefer A level maths (and even if they don't, it's a good idea to take it if you're planning on continuing with economics after your first year).

Beyond that, there don't tend to be any particular requirements, and any mixture of arts and sciences A levels is fine; though it's probably best to choose at least one essay-based subject.
