Aerospace is more specific in terms of engineering direction. General is more flexible. It is up to you on what you want to do more.

Competitive edge for what?

If you want to work on power electronics then the general engineering route incorporating electrical modules would be better. If you wanted to work on structural analysis of civil infrastructure then the general engineering with some civil modules is a better pathway..

If you want to work in the aerospace industry or on heat engines, aerodynamics, composite materials for advanced applications then the aerospace engineering degree is the better pathway.

You have to ask yourself, what do YOU want.
