Compelling Personal Reasons - SFE saying I wasn't at university?

Hello Student Room, I’m really hoping someone here might be able to help with my CPR application.

I have 2 years of previous study. I enrolled on the 3rd year of my previous course in 23/24 and attended about a week of study before having to suspend my studies and eventually drop out due to poor mental health.

I’m pleased to say my mental health is now much better and I am planning on returning to study this coming September.

I am planning on studying a 4 year course. Due to my previous 2 years of study I am not eligible for a tuition fee loan for my first year of study.

I have submitted my CPR application once already, with evidence as to my poor mental health etc, they stated: “The evidence you sent us can’t be accepted because the evidence relates to the academic year 2023/24 but you didn’t attend university that year..” I did attend that university that year but I left before the first tuition fee payment was paid, hence why SFE believe that I did not attend. I did officially enroll and everything as far as I can remember.

I have spoken to SFE, and they said that they would require evidence for the 22/23 academic year. I can supply this, I could probably obtain evidence of my poor mental health from a previous counsellor, however, I did manage to complete this year of study so I’m not sure whether it would really be applicable? This doesn't seem correct?

It says online that I can provide evidence as to why I was unable to continue with my course / finish an academic year. I wasn't able to continue with my course as a result of the evidence provided, however, they have not accepted it based on the evidence occuring during a year I was not at university. Except I was at university, it just happened so early on in the year.

Is anyone able to provide any advice as to what I should do? I’m a little bit confused and feeling a bit desperate. Thanks so much

Hi there. If we don't have any record of you attending in 23/24, then it would be 22/23, as this would be the Academic year you didn't progress. If we did have record of you attending 23/24, then this means we would count it as 3 years of previous study, not 2. Meaning you would have 2 years of funding left for a 4 year course.

The best option would be to get the evidence to relate to 22/23, if it was due to the same reasons then you would just need to update the dates on the letter. Thanks, Leah.
