My personal list of basics (some of which you've definitely already heard of):

Nicholas McBride, Letters to a Law Student: A Guide to Studying Law at University: Good for figuring out what law studies involve, differences between Oxford and Cambridge, etc

Glanville Williams, Learning the Law: Useful intro on how to read cases, what legal abbreviations mean…

Allan Hutchinson, Is Eating People Wrong? Great Legal Cases and How They Shaped the World: Exactly what the title sounds like! Contains some fundamental first-year law cases too

Tom Bingham, The Rule of Law: Interesting book on the foundational principles of UK law

Catherine Barnard, Janet O'Sullivan and Graham Virgo, What About the Law?: Introductions on all the main legal modules you’ll study at any uni - Janet O’Sullivan in particular was one of my supervisors in first year, I love her written tone!

The Secret Barrister, Stories of the Law and How it’s Broken: Criminal law shenanigans, especially “behind-the-scenes” stuff on the legal world and its flaws. Incredibly interesting!
